DESSO Foundation announces 2024 Academic Scholarships
Founded in 2012, the DESSO Foundation has been awarding post Secondary and University level Academic scholarships to Jamaican students in the Treasure Beach community since 2016. In 2023, DESSO awarded over $35,000 USD amongst 34 recipients.
With the perils and aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the Foundation recently made the decision to suspend the 2024 interview process and fund all the applicants that had reached the semi-finalist stage of the award process. This was most certainly a relief for the families already well into the 2024 interview cycle and one less burden to the community in keeping with the DESSO Foundation Mission Statement.
To ensure that hard-working, dedicated youth of the Treasure Beach community in Jamaica who want to better themselves through education are not prevented from doing so based on a lack of financial resources. To encourage community-mindedness and giving back by those same youth in order to improve the entire community.
The presentation of the 2024/2025 awards will be Friday, August 23rd at 10am sharp. The awards presentation will be hosted at The Treasure Beach Womens Group facility in Old Wharf. In total, 2024/25 will see $41,600 awarded to 39 scholars – 14 Secondary school students and 25 University level students.
