Speakers Announced for JK Breast Cancer Foundation Symposium
The JK Breast Cancer Foundation is excited to announce the speakers for its upcoming symposium, set for 1:00 PM on October 19, 2024, at Beyond Sunset Smoke Grill and Bar.
The symposium will feature an esteemed panel of experts, including:
- Ms. Debbie Barker | Breast Cancer Patient and Advocate
- Dr. Miguel Johnson | Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Cornwall Regional Hospital
- Dr. Andrew Josephs | Vice-President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Consultant General Surgeon at Mandeville Regional Hospital
- Dr. Janique Baldwin-Miller | Consultant Psychiatrist
- Ms. Sandra Samuels, J.P., MBA | President of Jamaica Reach to Recovery
The event’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Mark Pegram, the Suzy Yuan-Huey Hung Endowed Professor of Medical Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Pegram is a leading figure in breast cancer research and currently holds several prominent roles at Stanford, including Associate Director of Clinical Research at the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Institute and Associate Dean for Clinical Research Quality. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Stanford Clinical Translational Research Unit, which focuses on groundbreaking phase I clinical trials.
Dr. Pegram earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completed his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and finished his fellowship at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. His pioneering work in breast cancer research centers on the HER2 gene and developing innovative therapies for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. With over 110 publications in oncology and hematology, Dr. Pegram is also recognized for his contributions to the evolving role of biosimilars in cancer treatment.
