Free Tennis Clinic Returns to Treasure Beach Sports Park on December 8th, 2024
The Treasure Beach Sports Park is set to host its third Free Tennis Clinic this December, an initiative led by Arthur Phillpotts and Jason Henzell, with major support from Tennis Jamaica. This ongoing effort aims to make tennis accessible across the island, particularly for children who may not have had the chance to experience the game.
“We’re working to spread lawn tennis islandwide and give kids an introduction to this beautiful game,” the organizers explain.
Another key goal of the clinic is to equip local Physical Education teachers with the skills and resources to sustain the program in their schools. With the necessary training and equipment, these teachers will be able to continue tennis instruction long after the clinic ends.
The tennis team from Munro College plays a vital role in these clinics, providing hands-on instruction as part of their community service. Throughout the day, participants, including PE teachers and their students, enjoy a mix of formal coaching, fun activities, and complimentary food and beverages.
Looking ahead, plans are underway to host tournaments that will help identify promising young talent. This talent can then be channeled into Munro College and Hampton School, which are being developed as tennis centers for St. Elizabeth and surrounding parishes.
The ultimate vision is to nurture and guide these young players as they progress from primary school through high school, with pathways to tertiary opportunities in the U.S. and Canada.
