Menzies’ Bold Plan to Transform the Jamaica Center for the Arts into a Premier Creative Hub
In the heart of Treasure Beach, a dream is taking shape—one built with dedication, artistry, and a deep commitment to cultural enrichment. Jeff and Morgan Menzies are presently spearheading the second phase of construction for the Jamaica Center for the Arts, an inspiring new space designed to nurture creativity, preserve tradition, and foster artistic collaboration.
Phase 2: Building a Future for the Arts
With Phase 2 of 5 of the project nearing completion, the center is preparing to welcome its first students.
On March 16, 2025, the center will host its first official class—a Gourd Banjo Making workshop. This immersive session will teach participants how to craft a banjo from natural materials, a practice deeply rooted in Jamaican and African musical heritage. More than just a lesson in instrument-making, the class will highlight the cultural and historical significance of the gourd banjo, an instrument that echoes the rhythms of the past while inspiring future generations.
The final stages focus on expanding facilities, refining program offerings, and ensuring the space is fully equipped to serve artists and learners alike.

Their work extends beyond construction—through local partnerships and global support, they have cultivated a space where artistic expression and cultural preservation go hand in hand. The Jamaica Center for the Arts is set to become a gathering place for artists, musicians, and makers to exchange ideas, refine their skills, and celebrate Jamaica’s artistic traditions.
