Celebrating 32 Years of Jakes Hotel: A Treasure Beach Legacy

It’s hard to believe that Jakes Hotel has been part of our little slice of paradise for 32 years now. When Sally first opened its doors in 1993, it quickly became more than just a place to stay—it became a part of the heart and soul of Treasure Beach. For all of us—whether we’ve called Treasure Beach home for years or have simply found a home away from home at Jakes—this isn’t just a hotel; it’s family.

As Jason Henzell, part of the Henzell family who helped shape Jakes into what it is today, recalls: “I joined my mother in 1995 after she had opened the restaurant and two rooms—one for her and my dad, and the other for friends and family.” What started as a small, intimate retreat quickly blossomed into a beloved part of the community, thanks in large part to the vision and dedication of the Henzell family.

Jason remembers the early days, where growth was considered with care: “When I suggested buying the land next door and building more rooms, my mother was concerned, saying it was too expensive and that this was simply her hobby.” But as time passed, the hotel began to grow into something much bigger than originally imagined.

Over the years, Jakes has grown, but it’s never lost the special vibe that makes Treasure Beach so unique. The laid-back atmosphere, the stunning views of the Caribbean, and the warmth of the people who visit and work here have made Jakes a beloved spot for both locals and travelers alike. “Moving to Treasure Beach and building the Jakes brand has been a true blessing,” says Jason, reflecting on how far the hotel has come.

What sets Jakes apart is its genuine connection to the community. They’ve always supported local businesses, worked with local artists, and made sure that the culture of Treasure Beach shines through in everything they do. It’s this spirit of togetherness and respect for the land that keeps people coming back year after year.

To mark this special occasion, Jakes will be celebrating in true Treasure Beach style! The 32nd-anniversary celebration will kick off on Saturday, March 8th, at sunset, at Dougie’s Bar. Jake’s is excited to have the talented Lady Debs providing entertainment, making it a night to remember. The evening promises good vibes, great music, and an unforgettable time with friends, both old and new.

Jason is also excited about the future: “We look forward to the further expansion of our villa collection in the years ahead.” As Jakes celebrates this milestone, the Henzell family is already thinking ahead, continuing to grow and evolve while staying true to their roots.

Here’s to 32 years of making Treasure Beach the home of community tourism. We look forward to many more!
