About
At the age of 60, Tommy Wong, then a fisherman in Great Bay, decided to take up first drawing and then painting. Because of his life on the beach, never more at ease than when out at sea, the sea and the seashore naturally became his first subjects. Soon after, he started painting foreign and alien-looking landscapes, and recently he added an abstract layer to his work. When looking at his landscapes, it is hard to believe he never actually saw them in real life. If his style can seem naive, it seems to reflect an ancient knowledge, which shines through in an innate sense of light and texture, and probably comes from lifelong observation and from being one with his subjects.
Although his paintings are mostly empty of human presence, the artist himself being more at ease with nature than with people, you always perceive something like a vibrating soul in them.
